Tempered or tempered glass is a type of safety glass that is treated with heat or chemical treatments tuned to increase its strength compared to ordinary glass. Stirring puts the outer surfaces into stress and the interior in a tense condition. Such pressures cause the glass to collapse into small granular pieces, when broken, rather than breaking them into rough pieces as happens.
